Instructor + Studio Staff

Marin Pottery is located in downtown Novato with easy access to parking and public transportation. We have been teaching pottery for 20 years in Marin County and are looking to build our team to create a fun and creative environment where we can collaborate and build our programs. We offer flexible schedules, use of studio, and if you are a beginner in teaching we have the ability to guide you with written curriculum, having instructed children or adults before is highly recommended.

Instructors: independent contractor (DOE) per class per week, experience in teaching, and personal ceramic work.

INSTRUCTOR

  • Proficiency in ceramics and the ability to effectively communicate various techniques to a class of 4-12 people

  • Teaching a range of students; from first-timers in One-time Wheel Classes to those with an intermediate skill level in Weekly Ongoing Classes, children pottery classes (we can train those who are not experienced with this age group), and able to lead workshops

  • The perfect candidate may have a semi-structured curriculum and will be able to teach hand-building and/or potter's wheel classes

  • Be a resource in the studio for members and students: encourage and support individual creativity and provide new project ideas and how to execute ideas our students have

  • Ability to teach 1 to 4 classes a week, may schedule yourself to teach up to three classes in one day

  • classes are 2-3 hours in length, 4-6 weeks in length. One time wheel throwing classes are an option too

STUDIO STAFF POSITION OVERVIEW:

  • Provide the ultimate positive customer service experience

  • Helps to maintain a clean, organized, and visually inspirational studio

  • Assists studio operations

  • Kiln loading and unloading

  • Emailing completed work notifications

  • Glazing one-time class work

  • Glaze mixing and specific gravity testing

  • Daily cleaning of countertops, bathroom, sinks, and floors

  • Available some weekends and evenings

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Customer service

  • Interest in art, creativity, ceramics

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Multi-tasking capabilities

  • Organized and communicative

  • Professionalism in presentation and speech

  • Skills in operating a POS system and the ability to read, write, fluently speak and understand English

  • Physical Requirements

    • Must possess the ability to safely perform the physical work required of all duties, including manual dexterity, agility, strength, and coordination.

    • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

    • This job requires long periods of sitting, standing, or repetitive tasks
