How long have you been teaching wheel throwing and pottery classes for kids?

We have been teaching children all about pottery since 2000 teaching thousands how to work with clay through school programs, community centers, and our original studio, Studio 4 Art LLC

When are Marin camps offered?

This summer we will be offering camps June 13-17, July 12-16, July 29-23, and July 26-30

What age are your camps for?

Camps are for ages 8-14

Why enroll in our camps?

Marin Pottery’s mission is to create community through clay. Working with clay is soothing, grounding, allows itself to be open ended and open for individual interpretations. We welcome all ideas into our studio and hope to create a safe space for all to find a voice through their creativity.

What will my child learn in pottery camp?

We open our day with the main art activity introducing a new technique, art history, and a brainstorming session to allow for individual interpretations. We will take a break for lunch outside and then return for the second half of camp. This camp is unique because your children will be working artists. Each having their own station to practice wheel throwing, or venture into hand build sculpture or items you can use in your home.

How many campers are in each camp?

We have 10 pottery wheels, so we will have a maximum of 10 campers.

Will my child get to work on the potter's wheel?

Every day, all day if they choose.

The clay items my child makes, are they food safe?

If your child is making artwork that is meant to eat out of (cup, plate, bowl, etc.) their work is food and microwave safe.

Does the paint wash out of clothes?

Most clay and glaze wash out of clothes. We will be introducing different clay bodies, however, and some of them do stain.

Do you offer sibling discounts?

Due to COVID restrictions and very limited spaces (a reduction of almost ½ of a “normal” summer) we can not offer sibling discounts.

My child doesn’t really know much about ceramics, will they feel overwhelmed?

Absolutely not. We are experts on matching your child’s experience with appropriate introductions and executions with each project we introduce.

What techniques will my child learn?

Campers will learn about different clay bodies, glazes, underglazes, hand building, working with a slab roller, trimming techniques, and how to work with clay safely.

Our staff at Marin Pottery believes in the power of creativity and we can’t wait to share it with you!
